TTITLE: "LA-based R&B Artist Stephen Lee Explores "Online" Connections With Debut Single"
SUMMARY Online is an upbeat, catchy dance single that can make both baby boomers and millennials shake their moneymakers. It’s a song that laments the lack of personal connection and touch when dating in the world of new media.
BODY:

Independent singer/songwriter Stephen Lee may be old school, but the first single from his upcoming CD Old School. Reborn., entitled "Online" shows that he knows how to connect to listening audiences in the new school way.

In the song, Lee observes:
I just wanna spend some time / I'm not really into talking online, I'm not really into instant messenger, /A little bit of contact is what I prefer
But I guess I'll / Connect on MySpace / Friend you on Facebook / I guess I'll text you / Watch you on YouYube / Online, online

From reviewer Heath Andrews, Reviewyou.com:

"On his 2010 single, ‘Online,' Lee combines his beautiful voice with the sounds of technologically polished R&B that incorporates digitized self-harmony effects and thumping beats."

A skilled songwriter, storyteller and multi-instrumentalist, Lee is back in the music game after a health-based hiatus. After dealing with type 1 diabetes for many years, Lee was diagnosed in 2007 with a chronic heart condition that eventually led to heart surgery. The experience has only emboldened him to make the most of his music career. From those dark days comes the soulful Old School. Reborn this Fall.

"Online" hits iTunes and other digital distributors on July 13, 2010.

TTITLE: "Silvercloud Set To Release First CD Produced By Sam Taylor"
SUMMARY Silvercloud, a rock band from Dallas, TX is preparing the release of their firstCD prooduced by legendary producer Sam Taylor(King's X, ZZ Top, Galactic Cowboys) and launching North American Tour
BODY:

Dallas, TX(LPMV) Texas based rock band Silvercloud, formed in late 2009 when former Hiphenated Records recording artist Daniel Crisler was trying to expand the sound he began on his 2009 release Four Days On The Moon. Along came Phil Berger, formerly of Inside/Out Recording Artist Phoenix Down. Phil's progressive rock leaning guitar style and melodicism began pushing Daniel's existing songs in a whole new direction and began forming the nucleus of what would become Silvercloud. Jeff Wallace's rhythmic yet melodic bass lines added a whole other layer to what was becoming the Silvercloud sound...although the band began 2010 performing around the DFW area with another drummer it wasn't till March when April Samuels came into the picture with her powerful drumming that Silvercloud truly began. Free from the shackles of the former record label and management, Silvercloud began talks of recording their first CD, and Sam Taylor legendary former Producer for King's X and ZZ Top, offered his services. Holing the band up in Palmyra Studios to record six songs. The band are preparing the release of the CD hopefully in late May if not early June. The band also is preparing to launch a tour that should cover much of the Continental US. Starting at the beginning of June with dates in Austin, TX, then in August with dates in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee and many more before heading to the West Coast in early Spring. Look forward to more from this band in the very near future. The cd to be released will include several live tracks as well as the 6 songs recorded with Sam Taylor

TTITLE: "Ugly Colors debut album "Perfect As We Are" in stores everywhere & online now!"
SUMMARY Portland, Oregon indie/progressive/rock band Ugly Colors has just released their debut LP entitled "Perfect As We Are" on Mediaskare Records.
BODY:

Ugly Colors
"Perfect As We Are"

10 out of 10!!
Portland, Oregon technical rock group Ugly Colors got their start some years ago under the moniker Eli Keller. Since then, the band has singlehandedly climbed the ladder to become one of my favorite (if not my favorite) bands. Technical, challenging, but accessible and catchy as hell, Ugly Colors are here to stay. Combining the styles of Minus The Bear with their guitarist’s truly impeccable tapping talents, Armor For Sleep with bending, swirling guitar riffs – and vocally as catchy as any band out there, this unique style makes for some 50 play counts of their new album “Perfect As We Are” on my iPod. “Perfect As We Are” is (finally) available on April 6th, 2010, via Mediaskare Records.

If you follow me at all, you know this band is old news to you now; I’ve been plugging them since late September 2009. What you might not know, however, is that this band’s album, “Perfect As We Are,” is still as fresh, rejuvenating, and exciting to me today as it was the day I first heard it. Calling the record timeless is a sheer understatement; in my life, it has become a classic album I won’t be over for some time to come.

I’ll never forget the first day I got this record – I waited around for singer Daniel Harbold to send it to me over AIM. Much like receiving any record I’ve desperately craved for weeks, I was excited and overjoyed to hear “A Way With Words” crash through my stereo, but this album transcended into an experience for me. Much in the way my personally classic albums used to, the melodies and memories went along hand in hand as I listened to the record over the late fall and winter months. My mind flashed back to different – and in some ways, better – times, when records this priceless were and are still timeless. Think: “Dream to Make Believe.” Think: “Tell All Your Friends.” Think: “Highly Refined Pirates.”

And, yes, some of the songs on “Perfect As We Are” are nearly 4 years old; you can hear some old versions under the band’s early name “Eli Keller.” What gives these songs such a lasting impact is their honest, clever vocals and insanely catchy guitar hooks, ala Minus the Bear (their tapping guitarist is mind boggling). “The Waterfront,” from its opening guitar hook to its rhythmic, pulsating breakdowns combines elements of straightforward, catchy rock music with technically perverse guitars and rhythms – the hooks are just that good. The newer songs on “Perfect As We Are” (and ‘newer’ is a relative term; this album was written almost a year ago now) follow suit; whether it’s the crashing walls of guitar and radio-ready anthem on “Away With Words” or the tapping during the pre-verse on “I Am Here Because,” this band has a true sense of melody and harmony (not to mention their three guitarists’ obvious talents).

Sure, you’ll hear remnants of bands like Armor For Sleep, Recover, Minus the Bear, and maybe even some Counterfit – but the infectious melodies on Ugly Colors’ “Perfect As We Are” are truly their own.

Singer / lyricist Daniel Harbold finds his mark perhaps the best on “Today Felt Like A Funeral,” in which he literally tells a story that you can follow like a book. Throughout, the album conjures images of vanity, relationships, death, and life. It’s exciting to listen to. This album conjures up a familiar style and sound – but the solid, relentlessly great 13 songs never let you down. I can easily see this album being in my top 5 picks for 2010, and certainly one I’ll never stop listening to for years to come.

TTITLE: "GREEN MUSIC MOVEMENT COMES TO AUSTRALIA"
SUMMARY As environmental issues become increasingly crucial, the green music movement is picking up speed. In March 2010, Next Step Music launched the first online one stop shop for green musicians in Australia. But unlike most businesses that offer Green services, Next Step Music is green AND affordable.
BODY:

As environmental issues become increasingly crucial, the Green Music Industry Movement is taking place in Europe and America with projects like Julie’s Bicycle, and now its here in Australia.

In March 2010, Next Step Music launched the first online one stop shop for green musicians in Australia. The website offers a range of eco-friendly music services including digital distribution, carbon-neutral mastering, printing, Myspace Design, and a free online community.

But unlike most businesses that offer Green services, Next Step Music is green AND affordable.

The driving force behind Next Step Music is Brisbane based Asher Christophers, a young musician and entrepreneur with a keen interest in the future of our environment.

“As a green business, we minimise packaging, plant trees to offset carbon emissions, maximise energy efficiency in our office, and much more” said Asher.

“As an e-business we don’t use as much energy as a shop, we recycle, buy locally, use public transport, encourage our artists to submit music online, use 100% green energy in our office, and print with vegetable ink on 75% recycled paper.
Team members also make efforts to minimise their personal footprints and artists are encouraged to do the same. The website includes green resources to assist artists in minimising their environmental impact at the same time as saving money.”

Musicians hold great power to make changes because of how many people they can influence. It’s also safe to say that environmental issues are more likely to strike a chord with the average musician than they do with average Joe.

As environmental awareness increases and more major artists go green, the green music industry movement is picking up speed, and Next Step Music aims to be at the forefront with a range of additional green services planned for the near future.

TTITLE: "Gavin Castleton in Seattle"
SUMMARY Gavin Castleton live in Seattle Time: 9:00PM Thursday, April 1st Location:Jewelbox Theatre
BODY:

Portland-based songwriter/producer Gavin Castleton will hit the road again
with his trio this April in support of his latest releases: the Random
Anthems EP, and his 2009 LP, Home. Both recordings made Castleton a favorite
of LA's influential KCRW's "Morning Becomes Eclectic" show where he
performed live during his '09 CD release tour. "Hope is a Drug" and
"Coffeelocks," Gavin's latest singles, were both awarded the Today's Top
Tune feature on KCRW.com.

Gavin Castleton's love-story-gone-wrong "popera" Home is as resilient as the
zombie antagonists in its narrative, still gracing the pages of blogs, top
ten lists, and horror movie zines more than a year after its release. To aid
in the digestion of this unconventional record, Castleton recorded a
Director's Commentary detailing some of Home's plot twists and compositional
elements. Listeners can stream the entire album with commentary at
gavincastleton.com.

Even in the midst of recording sessions for his upcoming full-length, Won
Over Frequencies, Castleton continues to shower his listeners with new
material. From his intimate solo performances on YouTube, to the countless
essays, lyrics, and album narrative extensions on his blog, to his
innovative "flash-fiction" pieces on Twitter, Gavin Castleton is tireless in
his pursuit of immediate creative endeavors. Catch him at one of these west
coast dates:

Thu Apr 1st - The Jewelbox in Seattle, WA
Sat Apr 3rd - The Blvd in Spokane, WA
Sun Apr 4th - The Bouquet in Boise, ID
Mon Apr 5th - Kilby Court in Salt Lake City, UT
Tue Apr 6th - D-Note in Denver, CO

Mon Apr 12th - Seven on West in Reno, NV
Tue Apr 13th - Valentine's in Portland, OR

"Home is a bizarrely intriguing prog-pop album that only works because of
Castleton's spectacular voice. If you want to be challenged while still
enjoying pop songs, this disc's the way to go." - Alternative Press

"Coffeelocks is a uber cute exchange that will more than likely be shared
over dozens of cups of coffee throughout the years." - Filter Magazine

"Home is a lush, musically diverse endeavor, recorded on a shoestring but so
rich in its production it's hard to believe it's not coming from major-label
resources." - Mother Jones

"Castleton has a tremendous gift for fashioning grand cinematic songs that
swell with ambitious prose" - Portland Mercury

TTITLE: "ENTER SHIKARI NORTH AMERICAN TOUR WITH A DAY TO REMEMBER, AUGUST BURNS RED, SILVERSTEIN KICKS OFF MARCH 31st"
SUMMARY UK BAND’S LATEST, COMMON DREADS, AVAILABLE DIGITALLY IN THE U.S. PHYSICAL RELEASE TO BE SOLD EXCLUSIVELY THROUGH HOT TOPIC BEGINNING APRIL 13 BAND JOINS VANS WARPED TOUR JUNE 24-JULY 18
BODY:

U.K. juggernauts ENTER SHIKARI, known for an eclectic sound that audaciously melds hardcore punk with pulse-pumping drum’n’bass and dark, gut-churning dubstep, are set to join A Day To Remember, August Burns Red and Silverstein on the  North American TOURSICK tour starting March 30th in Ft Lauderdale, FL. A number of dates are already sold out. The band will then join the Vans Warped Tour from June 24-July 18th.

The band’s latest release, Common Dreads (which debuted at #7 in the UK) is the follow-up to the gold-certified debut Take To The Skies--which also debuted in the UK top 10, earning the band headlining gigs and regular spots on the major worldwide festival circuit. The band’s most recent U.K. headline tour culminated with a triumphant show in front of over 5000 fans at the Hammersmith Apollo.

Common Dreads is available digitally in the United States via the band’s own imprint Ambush Reality in partnership with DGC/Interscope Records. The physical release will be available in all Hot Topic stores beginning April 13th. Fans can also purchase the album at all shows as well as from the band’s merch store: http://www.gomerch.com/interface/body.php?module=store&id=95

For the latest album, the group headed to the isolated Isle Of Wight and holed-up at Arreton Manor studio for three months with veteran producer Andy Gray (U2, Tori Amos, Korn, Gary Numan). Common Dreads is a 15-song soundtrack for an entire generation on a mission to define the era in which it was born: one of recession, paranoia, state control and the fallout of decades of accelerated capitalism; and on the other side, an era of hope, creativity, humanity, hedonism, irreverence and fun. “Politics are unavoidable,” explains lead vocalist ROU REYNOLDS. “We just can’t write sappy music. Our first album was cryptic and metaphor-heavy, this one is more direct. Since we gained popularity, we realized, whether we like it or not, we have the ability to influence people--and with that is a responsibility to speak our minds.” Common Dreads is destined to unite the tribes, divide the critics and thoroughly satisfy anyone who has witnessed the mad live spectacle that is ENTER SHIKARI.

Enter Shikari is: Rou Reynolds  (vocals / electronics) Rory Clewlow (guitar / backing vocals) Chris Batten (bass / vocals) Rob Rolfe (drums).

UK raves for ENTER SHIKARI:

“Hailing from the wilds of St. Albans, Enter Shikari brought their electronic hardcore to the masses with their hugely successful debut, Take To The Skies, and on number two they’ve stepped up their game. The songs are more than just Foo Fighters numbers run through a Moog keyboard. They stand alone as sing-along monsters that at times are genuinely angry. Best track: ‘Zzzonked’ is like a calculator at a riot” - FHM

“…Delivered a punchy, dynamic set weighted in favour of new material. The band’s excellent second album…nods towards the agro-merchants Gallows, The Prodigy and The King Blues and consequently new songs like ‘Step Up’ sound more muscular and menacing…”  - Kerrang!

“…the show is a relentlessly fun bombardment of the senses. Frontman Rou Reynolds is a man set on destroying everything: the speakers, the monitors, the Barfly, himself, our ear-drums and, most impressively, the divide between band and fan. …You can certainly see why Enter Shikari have such a strong fan-base: it’s earned through dedication and sheer hard work, rather than merely bought through contrived marketing. The songs themselves feed off this relationship: amplified by the chaos of fans climbing pillars or jumping off amps, they feel urgent, unpredictable and exciting”. – NME

“Enter Shikari didn’t disappoint, with an exhilarating set complete with impressive light show and the fans equaling the band in terms of energy.” – Big Cheese

TTITLE: "Los Angeles Shock Rockers Rebel Rebel ITUNES only release"
SUMMARY New release "A Rock In The Face" is 20 tunes spanning the bands 21 year history
BODY:

Los Angeles Ca. based shock rockers Rebel Rebel announce the release of their new set of songs, “A Rock In The Face-Best of 1988-2010”, on February 1st, 2010 via ITUNES exclusively. Band spokesman and manager, Teddy Heavens, informs that the band has decided to join the digital wave as the decline of CD sales continues and the preferred means of consumers buying music is via digital downloads. The band has been selling downloads of their last two releases, but half the songs from the 20 song new release have never been available for download and are taken from prior releases that are long out of print. The band has decided that since they have released all Rebel Rebel music via their own label FTW Records & Filmworks, that it is only natural to continue the DIY punk rock spirit in this emerging digital age and thus the new battle cry of Join The (digital) Wave or Else …..get left behind!

“A Rock in The Face” consists of 20 songs taken from all the bands past releases, 10 of which have never been available for digital download before and all the songs have all been remastered for the digital release format that ITUNES demands. In addition, the cover artwork (in glorious exploding pink) is a commissioned drawing of the band’s classic four piece line-up that performed the songs on this best of release. For further information feel free to contact the band directly.

From BSST
We have a new album written, and we are certain it’s our best yet. DAFFY’S ELIXIR is a Western set during the Industrial Revolution, with an assorted cast of bandits, con men, hucksters, phonies, and all-around bad fellas. There’s an evil landlord, a cross-dressing disciple of Billy The Kid, and the Red Baron of Arizona. There are cow-gal robots, spurned lovers, mad miners, rotten newspapermen, and lots and lots of Diamonds.

With this project, there is no middle man between BSST + their fans.
Fans can donate any amount they see fit and the band offers as incentive a range of rewards including advance copies and demos of the still-to-be-completed album, private concerts and personalized songs written by the band.
In essence, fans are buying music while simultaneously giving life to that record.

Who are Bryan Scary and the Shredding Tears?
Chicago native BRYAN SCARY recorded his 2007 debut solo, before recruiting the rest of THE SHREDDING TEARS and setting up shop in Brooklyn. The five-piece group features Graham Norwood on guitar, Mike Acreman on keys, David Ostrem on bass, and Brian Bauer on drums, with Scary on vocals and keys.  BSST has been called "psychedelic," "progressive," "quirky," and "strange," but they consider themselves first and foremost a pop band. 2008's FLIGHT OF THE KNIFE fused glam, psych rock, and theatrical 70s pop with  science fiction narratives and elaborate children's stories. A conceptual tour-de-force, the album hit #6 on the iTunes Rock Chart after being made Editor's Choice, and amassed a significant cult following. The group continues to win fans with their flamboyant and maniacally-energetic stage shows -- multimedia events which showcase the band's story-telling and flair for the dramatic.

BSST's newly released EP, MAD VALENTINES, is a joint release with Elijah Woods' Simian Records and Old Flame Records. . The band recorded the album in LA with producer Jonathan Sadoff (a member of the band thenewno2). An additional EP track was then recorded in Brooklyn and produced by Bryce Goggin (Pavement, The Apples In Stereo). The lead-off track on the EP, "Andromeda's Eyes," will be available as a Rock Band downloadable level this fall.

The band toured throughout fall/winter to support MAD VALENTINES. They are fundraising to enter the studio in 2010 to record their next full-length album, a Western set during the early 20th century and titled DAFFY'S ELIXIR.

TTITLE: "Keegan Smith and The Fam"
SUMMARY 2009 has been an extraordinary year for longtime Portland music staples Keegan Smith & the Fam.
BODY:

Smith and his band won a pair of 2009 Portland Music Awards, in both Male Artist of the Year and Best Live Performance categories. He has been nominated again this year for both awards, which will be announced on January 21st, 2010.

On May 2nd, the group released its 5th album, Special Delivery, and celebrated with a sold out crowd at Portland's Bagdad Theatre before kicking off a full summer schedule of local and regional shows and festivals (KINK’s Noon Tunes, Les Schwab Amphitheater, etc).

Special Delivery documents the struggles and unabashed joy associated with being a new parent. Smith teams up with producer Justin Dodge for this album, crafting a variety of songs about the marital bond, father-daughter love, financial struggles, addiction, spiritual uncertainties and all-encompassing breakdowns associated with his life. The new album stylistically flows between acoustic pop, disco-funk and reggae-blues against an electronic backdrop to create ethereal undertones.

The band is currently featured during each Portland Trailblazer Pre-Game show this season on NBC networks, nominated for Best Adult Contemporary Artist in the 2009 Hollywood Music in Media Awards, and is confirmed for internet radio play on Pandora. Throughout the fall / winter they will be playing locally as well as regionally, with tour stops including Anchorage, San Diego, Whistler, Montana, Los Angeles and Seattle. Keegan's band, “The Fam" is a mix of musical heavyweights from the Northwest's thriving music scene. Together they create an energetic and entertaining sound that captivates audiences of every age.

TTITLE: "Broken Links release their 4 track EP "Resisting Movement And The Almost Advisory" on January 25th 2010."
SUMMARY BROKEN LINKSRESISTING MOVEMENT AND THE ALMOST ADVISORY Within Isolation / The Best Laid Schemes Of Mice and Men / Colditz / The Sea Inside   EP Released January 25th Available via download (iTunes and Amazon)
BODY:

“The rifferama of ‘Within Isolation’ is a dark and menacing masterpiece whilst being strangely uplifting at the same time, ‘The Best Laid Schemes Of Mice & Men’ is anthemic to say the least and ‘The Sea Inside’ is possibly the creepiest and eeriest track you’ll hear anywhere whilst retaining a mesmerising sense of loveliness” - Playing Out Loud

“The band combine the energy and infectious nature of their songs with dirty sounding bass lines which give a dark undertone to their music…A great listen” - DigitalGig.co.uk

“…the monstrous riffing, thunderous bass and clattering drums all collide to produce a rhythmic, pulsating sound-clash that gets my pulse racing…These guys sound immense” - Mintsouth live review

Diving into the lyrical and musical depths of free association, taking you on an emotional rollercoaster of despair to complete arousal. Influenced by the under-currents of post-punk, and then boxing it up into an old stone box made of pure hard space rock and sin. A band you simply cannot ignore.

The year 2008 marked the beginning of ‘Broken Links’, an alternative act from Eastleigh, Southampton. The three piece, made up of Mark Lawrence on vocals and guitar, Lewis Betteridge on bass and Phil Boulter on drums, count Joy Division, Gary Numan, Depeche Mode, NIN, The Cooper Temple Clause and 'holy bible' era Manic Street Preachers amongst their influences. The band’s ambition and approach is refreshing - “We don’t use amps. We use pods and floor pedals for vocal effects. We recorded the entire EP in Mark’s bedroom!” offers Phil. The result of this is a debut EP that captures Broken Links angst ridden and downright dirty live sound perfectly.

The band have supported established acts British Sea Power, The Boxer Rebellion, My Vitriol, Official Secrets Act, Fighting with Wire, The Cinematics, Scarlet Soho, and Flamboyant Bella, picking up some die-hard fans along the way. They have taken their live show to well established venues such as The Purple Turtle (Camden), Powers (Kilburn), Boston Music Rooms (Tufnell Park), The Joiners (Southampton), Hectors House (Brighton), iBar (Bournemouth), The Railway Inn (Winchester), and Lennons (Southampton), with full intention of leaving watchers mesmerised by the wall of sound they create. A sound certainly not expected of a three piece.

Broken Links won We Ignite Records 2009 ‘Battle of the Bands’ in May, fighting off competition from bands including Three Times Over, My Hollow Tree and The Reserviors.

The band are looking to tour Europe early next year, and have begun work on their second EP, which they plan to preview at forthcoming gigs.

Catch Broken Links perform live at the following venues:

Nov 27th – Hamptons, Southampton / Nov 28th – The Harrier Inn, Hamble / Dec 4th – Ryde Theatre, Ryde, Isle of Wight

Dec 9th – The Cellars, Portsmouth / Dec 17th – The Joiners, Southampton / March 27th – The Bitter End, Romford

TTITLE: "NEW CD-BREAKING SKIN/ROMPIENDO EL CUERO"
SUMMARY 18 traks of Latin Jazz and Afro-Cuban/Caribbean drumming and music.
BODY: Johnny Conga – Breaking Skin (Independent 2009)

August 20, 2009 by danavas Filed under CDs

Review written by: Raul de Gama-Latin Jazz Network www.latinjazznet.com

Johnny Conga comes from a long line of illustrious tumbadores, too many to mention, but suffice it to say that from the musical evidence on Breaking Skin, the genealogy may well include the likes of Chano Pozo, Mongo Santamaria, Tata Güines, Candido, Armando Peraza, Francisco Aguabella and a host of others. Lest anyone out there scream, “Blasphemy!” it bears mention that Johnny Conga stylistically connects ancient with modern from the challenging rhythms of West Africa – the beating heart of ritmo – to the son and danzon, timba, bembe, charanga, rumba, mambo and so on.

Conga’s exclusively rhythm tracks – the “Conga Solo” series, which feature 2 and 3 congas, “Bembe Ochun,” “Conganation,” “Congobel Part II” and “Congarobics – 3 Congas” are all stunning displays not only of virtuoso tumbadora work, but inspired emotional homecoming. The hypnotic edge suggests a conjuring of the spirit world, a call to prayer that is primitive and powerfully modern. It suggests that the drum connection with musical spirituality is vibrantly alive.

Johnny Conga may be making a very important statement here. He is not only establishing his pedigree with this record, nor displaying a flashy skill. There is something greater than dexterity on display here. Johnny Conga is re-establishing the spirit connection with musical journeying. To suggest anything else would be silly. Jack DeJohnette had once lamented that spirituality had left music after John Coltrane died. Musicians it seemed were no longer probing, looking for the tonal centers of song and dance, while entertaining at the same time. But as civilizations spiral uncontrollably into the future, bereft a spirit the world spins darkly. Music like that on Breaking Skin is a constant reminder that there is an alternative, a seeking for the ebullience that can only come with a search for the deeper connection with the roots of humanity, the ritmo of the soul.

So can this record be really enjoyed without this mumbo jumbo? It can and in many more ways than one. True that there is an innocuous start to the record, with Chick Corea’s early chart, “Guajira,” but that only sets the stage for the musical heat that is to follow. There is also a superb display of transcendent interplay between Conga, piano and vibes player, Mario “Del Barrio” Marrero, and rhythmic counterpoint with timbalero, Edwin Bonilla together with the bongocero, Ronnie Loreto. “Seattle Bembe” is a fine example of ritualistic drumming, the rumbling incantation and Bembe raining, blended with a bubbling in the barrio as the maestro of the Yoruba worship calls upon the spirits up above to bless all songs.

“Siempre me va Bien” blends sassy melody with the raining of seemingly mambo coconuts and a delightfully drunken hypnotic clave laughter conjoined with piano con clave. But Johnny Conga does not stop at celebrating merely the Afro-Cuban, or the Afro-Caribbean – as on “Caribe Madness”. There is also some superb deconstruction of the Brasilian rhythms, featured on intense samba tracks such as “Mariel,” which rocks from a sensuous piano and vibes introduction to a swaggering bolero, before skipping with heart-stopping motion back to a samba. “Afro-Samba” is no less wonderful, though completely different from its fluttering counterpart. And, of course, “Midnight Mambo” is a sexy confluence of brass woodwinds and percussion – the highlights are the tenor saxophone work of Tom McCormick with Johnny Padilla on soprano doing svelte pirouettes in counterpoint.

Throughout the record, Johnny Conga’s effortless method of creating memorable ritmo is always on. The rhythmic splatters he creates are non pareil. His left hand patterns and a variety of right hand slaps both open toned and flat slapping is inspired and memorable. Add to that the compositional abilities and the recasting of older work in a modern context and this makes Breaking Skin a record that is pretty close to perfect.

TTITLE: "The Best Kept Secret on the Internet" -Audiophile mp3 has come of age and has proven itself via subscription radio.
SUMMARY Back to Basics: Internet radio and high quality mp3 files are the secret to success in digital (and hard copy )music sales.
BODY: Just last month, Tuvia Wertheim, stationmaster and creator of "baroque247" on the "Live 365" network received an unexpected phone call from a representative of one of the biggest music tracking and rating agencies in the world who asked him, "We've been tracking your statistics for years now, and we're stumped-how in the world does your little station "Baroque 247" on the "Live 365" network which isn't even "professional" have the highest 'Nielson' rating of any classical station on the entire net; draw listeners in the millions in over 130 countries, have the highest click -to-buy (20%) conversion of free listeners to paying VIPs- all with no advertising whatsoever? This is unheard of. How did you do that?" After thinking a moment, Tuvia's initial reply was "...if I tell you , I'll have to kill you".

Orphaned at the age of 2, and growing up in in a small , poor farming community in upstate NY. , Tuvia was reading books by the age of 2, finished every single book in the Catskill Public Library by the time he was 11.Throughout his childhood, Tuvia's real love was music. He would scavenge local junkyards and put together makeshift "stereos" out of an RCA Victrolas mounted on a chest of drawers for resonance, and other devices culled from junked car speakers. He loved guitar, violin , brass and other acoustic instruments. His stubborn determination to find creative solutions to problems combined with keen powers of observation and passion to find "what works" rather than be bound by existing conventional modes of learning and research took him to places even he would never imagine.

At age 14 Tuvia began studies at Rennsalaer Polytechnic Institute in Rochester, NY. and later returned returned to high school to take the SATs, Regents and PSATs and received the highest scores in the country for all three for those years. After being beseiged with offers for scholarships from every major university in the country, he chose to be close to his grandfather in Rego Park, N.Y. and attend Hofstra University on Long Island where he majored in history. Two years later, he married and the couple moved to Israel - a lifelong dream, with just a suitcase of clothing, a box of books, and of course, Tuvia's prized record collection.

In 1994, after acquiring his first computer with a sound card it was love at first sight. He became fascinated with the idea of playing music through the computer. While on Compuserve, he found another computer geek who was trying to do the same thing. Through Tuvia's guidance, the two came up with "CD Runner", the first program to play CDs on a computer. A dispute over development of the product caused the two to part ways a year later, and Tuvia continued to working on unlocking the key to boosting the quality of mp3 files while keeping the bandwidth low. He forsaw in 1995, that mp3 was the wave of the future and wanted to be ready when the rest of the world caught up. It took ten more years of intense development before he was able to showcase "HD Audio Plus" via the "Live 365" network. The genre he chose to focus on was classical music (in particular Baroque), since it is the most profitable segment of the music industry , universally loved, melodic, and easy on the ears. What he didn't expect was the overwhelming positive feedback he received from listeners. Within less than a year of the grand opening, "Baroque247" had one of the highest listener ratings and more listener hours than most other stations who had invested a fortune in sound equipment, transmitters and advertising. "Baroque 247" required no special equipment or fancy playback device. It sounded spectacular even on laptops. To date , he has received over 25,00 pieces of fan mail-and it just keeps on coming...

What Tuvia DID share with this representative (who insists that his identity remain anonymous) were 5 key points to his unprecendented success in attracting potential customers to a music sales site.

1. Get back to basics: Radio always was and will continue to be the best medium to drive music sales. But here's the new spin-"deep niche marketing". By using this niche marketing technique and narrowing the choices down to the ones that people REALLY want to hear, you can drive sales through the roof. Subscription radio is the way to do this. Audiences don't want to be bombarded with 20 kinds of music interspersed with 15 minutes of ads per hour and annoying DJ patter. Terrestrial stations have gotten away with this for years because there was nothing else. The advent of the Internet has changed all that and given people a choice of what they want to hear. That being the case...

2. Give people what they want: Audiences and consumers want 3 things when they purchase music: QUALITY, PORTABILITY and VALUE. They also despise ads and annoying DJs. Quoting Leonard Bernstein,"Good music should never be interrupted by a commercial". Listen to what your audience wants and they will love you and pay you handsomely for it. Through years of meticulous tracking of audience preferences, "Baroque 247" has the most extensive baroque libraries anywhere, and the largest, most dedicated audience on the net.

3. Portability and universal compatability: All the music broadcasted on "Baroque247" can be played on any device and any platform and sounds BETTER than CD at only 64K. Other stations who claim to have superior sound broadcast at much higher bandwidths don't come close to the richness and depth of "HD Audio Plus".

4. Superior sound quality: "HD Audio Plus", is a data recovery process that creates analog "sound prints" of every intrument that exists. This forensic data recovery system is based on real life analog models. The playback engine (embedded into the music itself) was created according to the specs of the renowned Marantz 1965 8A tube amplifier, known as the purest , cleanest, most natural sounding amplifier ever built. This data is then encased in a universally compatable portable mp3 digital "wrapper". It is importable and exportable to all analog, digital (compressed or not), terrestrial (AM, FM, DAT, DAB) sattelite and cable transmission.HD Plus provides a ready plug and play broadcast with a single steady compliant standard of sonic quality. On "Live 365" the music is broadcast in 64k and sounds like a million bucks. No matter which codec is used, HD+ post processing overcomes both treble and bass limitation present in extant codecs by increasing articulation and attenuation dramatically. For the serious audiophile, the addition of a simple inexpensive subwoofer to your present stereo system will give you authentic live performance acoustics and spacial cuing as if you were sitting right there in the concert hall. OnTuvia's private subscription sites "baroque247.com" and "WCCB-The World Center For Classical Broadcasting" his music can be heard also at 192 and 360K . Totally mind blowing.

5. Give better value: Contrary to what the music industry would like to believe, people are not suckers. The reason that no pay-per-download site is making any money today is because instead of paying 99cents per song (which comes out to over $14.00 per album) and getting inferior audio quality to boot, people would prefer to save their money and get the SAME quality music for free on Kaaza or Limewire. The success of Baroque 247 has proven that when you give people REAL quality, they will happily pay for it.

Along with broadcasting portability, people want to be able to purchase a hard copy of the music broadcast on his sites. Through his own private station baroque247.com which was opened last year, Tuvia is offering free monthly downloads to members , and in the near future will be offering subscribers a 25 hour DVD comprised of the best of baroque247 and it's sister site WCCB- The World Center for Classical Brodcasting (which is strictly symphonic works)- all of which can be transferred or played on on any Ipod, mp3 player or home theatre system. By selling such an collection in mp3 format, as a multimedia DVD, the royalties are 40% less, making it possible to sell this product for a fraction of the price of buying the albums separately. This way, everyone goes home a winner-the producer, the consumer and the ARTIST. Quality, value , portability and choice. This is what today's consumer wants and what all the music companies don't understand. As to piracy-Tuvia has a foolproof solution to that problem too. But like Coca Cola, the formula will forever remain a trade secret.

P.S. All of the above also applies to video clips, feature movie soundtracks and especially IMAX Theatre presentation.

Any music rights holder interested in finding out more about what HD Audio Plus can do for their sales is welcome to contact Tuvia directly at : producer@hdaudioplus.com
